Abstract:

N2 molecule is the main form of nitrogen in interstellar space, and it is also the main component of the atmosphere of earth, Titan, Pluto and Triton; N2 is also a model system to study the kinetics of indirect pre dissociation. C2 radical exists widely in the combustion of carbon containing organic matter, comets and interstellar space. It is an important reaction intermediate.Combined with the self-built tunable vacuum ultraviolet laser(VUV) based on the principle of four wave mixing and the high-resolution slice ionvelocity imaging device, we studied the energy level structure and dissociation dynamics of N2 and C2 molecules in the VUV band. This report will mainly introduce the latest progress in the following aspects: (1) It is found that the branching ratio of N2 dissociation to N(4S)+N(2D) and N(4S)+N(2P) channels has a strong isotopic effect, which plays an important role in the study of the evolution of interstellar media and planetary atmosphere; (2) The photo dissociation kinetics of N2 near the threshold of N(2D3/2, 5/2) +N(2D3/2, 5/2) is studied, which provides an important experimental basis for the study of long-range interaction in atomic low-temperature collisions; (3) Energy level structure of C2 radical in VUV band.

Introduction:

Gao Hong, researcher of Institute of chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences and winner of National Excellent Youth Fund. He graduated from the Department of physics of Tsinghua University in 2008 and received a doctorate from the Department of chemistry of UC Davis in 2013. He then engaged in postdoctoral research at Stanford University and the University of Basel, Switzerland. At the end of 2017, he joined the laboratory of molecular reaction dynamics, Institute of chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences as a researcher and doctoral supervisor. The research group of Gao Hong is mainly engaged in the research of vacuum ultraviolet dissociation of small molecules and ion molecular reaction dynamics of quantum state selection. At present, it has published more than 50 papers in Nature Communications, the Astrophysical Journal, Journal of Chemical Physics and other journals.
