The institute of atomic and molecular physics of Jilin University is the first institute of atomic and molecular physics in China by the Ministry of education, the birthplace of atomic and molecular physics in China, and one of the earliest scientific research institutions. In 1979, it was jointly founded by Professor Gou Qingquan, a famous physicist, founder of atomic and molecular physics in China and one of the founders of physics at Jilin University. In 1998, it became the first batch of insitutions to grant the doctorate degree in physics discipline, and it was also the key construction disciplines of "Project 211 " and " Project 985" and “Double First-class” constructing disciplines. In 2013, the Key Laboratory of applied atomic molecular spectrum in Jilin Province was established. In 2018, Jilin advanced optical field and modern medical science and technology innovation center were established. Over the past 40 years, the institute always adheres to the academic idea proposed by Mr Gou Qingquan, to study the structure, state and change law of matter from the interaction of atoms and molecules, and has gradually developed into an important scientific research and high-leveltalent training base in the field of physics-related disciplines in China.
At present, the main research fields of the institute include the atomic molecular process and quantum control in strong laser field, atomic molecular structure, spectrum and dynamics, the calculation of atomic molecular physics in extreme conditions, and atomic and molecular physics in plasma. The institute has advanced instruments and equipments, such as ultra-fast femtosecond laser system, high-performance computing cluster, electron-ion momentum conformity measurement system, six-stage rod selective imaging system, tabletop ultra-short extreme ultraviolet light source system, etc., which provides the basic facilities and scientific research conditions for carrying out cutting-edge innovation research. Meeting the major needs of the country, aiming at international discipline frontiers, the institute has built advanced theoretical and experimental research platforms, and has formed the subject direction with distinct characteristics. Scientific research projects include The National Basic Research Program and The National Key R&D Program supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Key projects and projects for development of major scientific research instruments supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and so on. The research results have been published on the Nature Communications, Physical Review Letters, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters and other well-known international journals. In the past five years, the annual research funding of the institute has reached over10 million RMB and over 100 papers have been published every year.
The institute has an influential and dynamic teaching staff, with 33 faculties including 16 professors, 12 associate professors and 5 lecturers. The average age of the facultiesis 38 years old. They have experience in collaborative research in Canada, the United States, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Japan, Germany and other countries, forming a team with high level, reasonable structure, important influence in related disciplines and ability to undertake national important projects in the main research directions
The institute has a complete postgraduate training program, including master and PHD programs. We not only pay attention to the cultivation of students’ solid theoretical foundation, but also focuses on developing students’ academic vision, so as to cultivate innovative research talents.In the past five years, the institute of atomic and molecular physics has trained more than 300 master’s and doctoral students. A large number of graduates choose domestic and foreign universities for further study, and some of them are employed in relevant enterprises, institutions or companies in related fields every year, in which they have shown their great contributions.
The academic atmosphere of the institute is active, and has held many national and international high-level academic conferences and seminars. Well-known scholars at home and abroad have beeninvited to visit the institute.
