Abstract:
Rydberg state is a state of atoms and molecules, one electron of the atom and molecule is excited into an orbit with a higher principal quantum number in this state, due to the larger distance between the electron and the atomic nuclear, the interaction of atomic nuclear on the electron is little. Compared with the ground state, Rydberg state has lots of new properties, which are very useful in the field of atoms and molecules, optics and chemical research. In this report, we first introduce the properties of Rydberg state and the application in atomic and molecular research, and then we introduce some detection methods of Rydberg state, such as direct detection, field ionization, terahertz and microwave ionization, the advantage andthe weakness of different methods are also discussed. At last, we discuss theapplication of the Rydberg state detection methods in the research of Rydberg excitation in atoms and molecules.
