The first Northeast Universities Atomic and Molecular Physics Conference was held in Changchun from October 9 to 12, 2019. 110 representatives from 17 universities attended the seminar. The purpose of this seminar is to promote the development of atomic and molecular physics and related disciplines in northeast universities, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in scientific research.

At the opening ceremony, director Hu Zhan, on behalf of the organizer, extended a warm welcome to all scholars and guests and expressed gratitude to other institutions. Professor Ding Dajun in speech expressed the importance of protons and molecular physics in the frontier research of science and the major needs of the country, and placed high expectations on the development of related disciplines in Northeast universities.

On behalf of the professional committee of atomic and molecular physics of the Chinese physical society, professor Jin Mingxing congratulated the hold of the conference and fully recognized the contribution made by universities in Northeast China. Subsequently, representatives from Jilin University, Dalian University of Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, Northeast Normal University, Changchun University of Science and Technology, Liaoning University, Northeast Forestry University and other universities introduced their discipline development, scientific research and talent cultivation in related disciplines.

Liu Jie, a researcher from China Academy of Engineering Physics, was specially invited to attend the seminar. From the basic problems of quantum mechanics to serving the major needs of the country, researcher Liu Jie gave a wonderful special lecture entitled "from quantum tunneling to laser fusion". At the seminar, teachers from various universities gave 25 oral reports and carried out in-depth exchanges and discussions. Students’ reports were well prepared, which greatly stimulated the enthusiasm of the graduate students to participate in scientific research and academic exchanges.

The symposium not only consolidated the cooperation and exchange in Northeast Universities, but also laid the foundation for the new exchange relationship between atomic and molecular physics. The participants gave a high evaluation of the symposium, especially looking forward to a higher level in the future cooperation.
