Abstract:
Metamaterials are a new type of artificial materials based on subwavelength structural units, whose properties and functions can exceed the limitations of traditional materials, and have been paid wide attention to since the new century. In the optical band, due to the difficult processing and serious loss of subwavelength nanostructures required for the construction of such metamaterials, the negative refraction, hyperlens, stealth and other effects proposed in the early stage are difficult to be perfectly realized, and face great obstacles and challenges in engineering application. In 2011, people put forward the idea of metamaterial surface, which can effectively suppress its propagation loss and is more convenient for processing, giving people the possibility to explore and develop new photonics materials, devices and technologies in optical band. In this report, we will review the progress of metamaterial photonics from metamaterial materials to metamaterial surfaces briefly and introduce the development of metamaterial surface devices from principle innovation to application. This paper mainly introduces the progress of metasomeric surface or metasomeric lens in chromatic aberration control, depth of field imaging, wide-field microscopy, wide-angle imaging, etc., demonstrates the advantages and characteristics of metasomeric lens in highly integrated portable imaging, and discusses and prospects the future development of metasomeric photonic technology.
