Dr. Yan Zhou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His research focuses on precision measurements of molecular ions using quantum logic techniques, with current support from the U.S. DOE and NSF. He received his Ph.D. from MIT, where he worked with Prof. Robert Field on high-resolution spectroscopy of Rydberg molecules. He then conducted postdoctoral research at JILA, University of Colorado Boulder, under the supervision of Profs. Eric Cornell and Jun Ye, contributing to precision measurements of the electron electric dipole moment.

In this presentation, he will introduce a new platform for precision measurements of oriented polar molecular ions using cryogenic trapping, quantum logic spectroscopy, and nondestructive readout. The approach separates high-fidelity state preparation and detection in a static frame from parity-selective spin precession in a rotating electric field, enabling near-unity control and long coherence times. A segmented trap further supports spatially and temporally multiplexed measurements to identify and suppress systematic errors. Designed as a transferable framework for stable and radioactive molecular ions, the platform could enable sensitive searches for electric dipole moments, nuclear Schiff and magnetic-quadrupole moments, parity violation, exotic spin-dependent forces, and other physics beyond the Standard Model.
