National Program on Key Basic Research Project of China “Ultrafast Control of Quantum States of Atoms and Molecules” successfully completed

The research of quantum control and quantum information is aimed at the future of information technology and the needs of social development. The purposes are carry out the scientific research plan for basic, strategic and forward-looking exploration and developing the key technologies around the quantum control and quantum information in the major scientific issues and bottlenecks. The country has arranged major scientific research and key special research programs, laying a solid foundation to seize the core technologies in the future international strategic competition.

On March 2, it was reported that "China has entered the international frontier in the field of ultrafast control of quantum state" on the website of the Ministry of Science and Technology www.most.gov.cn .Professor Ding Dajun from Jilin University is the chief scientist, six research teams from different university and institute, including Jilin University, Chinese Academy of Sciences Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics, National University of Defense Technology, Beijing Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Shanghai Institute of Advanced Research Institute of Chinese Academy have joined and fulfilled the project "Ultrafast Control of Quantum States of Atoms and Molecules". They have made some influential, original and systematic research results and also achieve a number of breaking through on the key experimental techniques and theoretical methods on ultrafast laser field control the molecules, atoms, electrons, including the precise measurement of molecular quantum states evolution and dynamics processes, the control of the interaction between ultrafast laser fields and atomic, molecular quantum states, the preparation of electron wave packets the coherent radiation Generation based on ultrafast quantum control, and the environmental effects on ultrafast control of atomic molecular quantum state. At the meanwhile, an innovative collaborative research team and a world-class level of atomic-molecular-photon physics research base have been organized and built during the execution of the project. This research deeply understands the properties, evolution rules and interaction mechanisms of atomic molecular and electronic quantum states, and realizes the ultrafast control of molecules, atoms and electrons at the quantum state level. It has important guiding significance for exploring applications in the fields of chemistry, energy, information and biology.
