Laser Transmission
Browse:timeDate:2016-04-05Author:admin[Print]

During the transmission offemtosecond laser pulses in air, a stable plasma channelcalled filamentation is formed when the selffocusingdue to Kerr effect and defocusing due toplasma generation, reach a dynamical balance. It canfind its potential and promising applications in theremote sensing of atmospheric constituents, generationof air laser and air waveguide, rainmaking andlightning protection, etc.

We have successfully describednumerically the transmission of femtosecondlaser pulses in air. Ongoing research into luminescenceemission during the femtosecond laser filamentationwill provide information on the excitation and ionizationprocess of nitrogen and oxygen molecules duringfilamentation, combustion diagnosis of organic fuels, such as ethanol and butane, helping to improvecombustion efficiency and reduce pollutant products.
